Parks and Facilities

Hill Park is located on a beautifully landscaped four acres of land inside the city limits of HillPark.jpgMadison on South Main Street.  This city owned property came by donation from Mrs. Belle Knight, the daughter of Civil War veteran, Gazaway Knight, on October 3, 1916.  Mrs. Knight donated the property for the sole purpose of enjoyment “for the people of Morgan County”.  Playground equipment, grills, and picnic tables provide a great place for leisure activities.  There are four lighted tennis courts that are open for public use during daylight hours and close at 11:00PM.

Wellington.jpgWellington Park is located in the northern part of Madison on Highway 83 on approximately five acres of land.  In 1972 an African-American 4-H group donated enough property to build this park on the Bostwick Highway.  A grant was awarded to the Madison-Morgan Co. Recreation Dept. to build this park.  Wellington-Puritan donated some cash toward the funding of this project and the area was named Wellington Park.  The park is open during daylight hours for leisure activities.  The park features outdoor basketball courts, playground equipment, picnic tables, and a walking trail for everyone to enjoy.

Dupree.jpg     The Dupree Track and Field Complex is located at the corner of College Street and College Drive, directly in front of Morgan County High School.  It has a full size football field planted with Tift 419 hybrid Bermuda grass.  The track is a state of the art polyurethane 400 meter track with eight lanes.  It has all the field event stations that are needed for high school track events.  It is open to the public every day for walking, jogging, or serious running.  The bleacher area will hold over four hundred spectators. This project was funded entirely by the Dupree Foundation.

Heritage.jpgHeritage Park is located at the intersection of US 441 bypass and the Old Buckhead Road.  It is a multi use park on approximately twenty-five acres.  The park has three large lighted ball fields, one large playground, one small play area, two shelters, a regulation size soccer field, a .9 mile walking trail, a nature trail, a butterfly garden, and a two-hundred eighty space parking lot.  The park also features a building that houses athletic offices, a storage area, meeting rooms, concessions, and bathrooms.

Heritage Park is also home to our newist facility, the 'Bark Park.'  This facility provides an opportunity for citizens to have their dogs off leash in the park.  The facility has tables and benches, water, a doggie waste station as well as two fenced areas, one for small dogs and one for larger breeds.

Morgan County Tennis Complex is located on the corner of CollegeTennis.jpg Street and College Drive, across the street from Morgan County High School.  This brand new facility is definitely one of the best in the area.  The complex features eight lighted courts that are open for public use during daylight hours until 11:00PM, tennis lessons, and tournaments.  The complex also features a concession stand, restrooms, a picnic area, and a fifty space parking lot.

tracybrown.jpgMunicipal Park is located on both sides of College Drive in Madison on approximately fifteen acres of land.  This land was owned by the Morgan County Board of Education, who received the land from Mr. John Bostwick.  The city of Madison purchased the land from the Board of Education as a recreation facility for the benefit of all the Morgan County citizens.  This park includes a parking area, a shelter, community center, a playground, three lighted baseball fields, and two practice ball fields.  The Tracy Brown Field is a state of the art high school size baseball stadium.  The games on the Lions Club Field are for eleven to twelve year olds, and the games on the Puritan Field are for thirteen to fourteen year olds.  There are batting cages near each of the fields for use by teams also. Fans can watch the games under covered bleachers.  The Community Center features a full size gym, meeting rooms, and a kitchen.  The Center also houses the Recreation Department offices.

The shelter, which is available for rental by large groups, is equipped with a cooking areaBBQ-.jpg preparation area.  The shelter has a seating one-hundred fifty more people.  A playground is located near this shelter for the public as well as groups who utilize the park.

We take great pride in all of our programs and facilities, but our biggest asset in providing a well rounded program lies in the support of the community, as well as all of the volunteers.
